“Lawrence of Arabia,” Digitally Restored with Help from MTI Film, Wins FOCAL International Award

HOLLYWOOD—The new 50th Anniversary Directors Cut of Lawrence of Arabia, which underwent digital film restoration processing at MTI Film,  was awarded Best Archive Restoration/Preservation Title at the tenth FOCAL International Awards in London. The film was restored in 4K under the direction of Sony Pictures Entertainment EVP of Asset Management, Film Restoration and Digital Mastering Grover Crisp.

David Lean’s 1962 masterpiece, Lawrence of Arabia is widely considered one of the greatest films of all time. Prior to its 50th anniversary release by Sony Pictures last year, the film went through a meticulous restoration and re-mastering in 4K.

Sony Pictures’ Grover Crisp Recognized for “Outstanding Achievement in Restoration”

CULVERY CITY, CA  – The newly-restored, 50th Anniversary Directors Cut of David Lean’s 1962 masterpiece Lawrence of Arabia took home the award for “Best Archive Restoration/Preservation Title” at the tenth FOCAL International Awards held May 2nd in London. The 4K restoration of the film was completed last year by Sony Pictures Entertainment under the direction of Grover Crisp, EVP of Asset Management, Film Restoration and Digital Mastering for SPE. Crisp also received a special, individual award for “Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Film Restoration and Preservation.”

MTI Film Launches Film Restoration Facility in China

HOLLYWOOD— MTI Film, a Hollywood-based post production services provider and software developer, has entered into a joint-venture in China focused on film restoration. MTI Film China is located in a newly-opened Animation Park in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin.

The Chinese facility will operate under the direction of Jason Wong, a professor of animation in the Department of Visual Arts of Tianjin University’s School of Computer Software. The facility features a complete, state-of-the-art 4K restoration workflow based on MTI Film’s industry-leading Correct DRS™ technology. The first project for MTI China will be a restoration of the 1958 Glenn Ford Western, Cowboy.

NBC Universal Chooses MTI Film’s Control Dailies

HOLLYWOOD— NBC Universal has selected MTI Film’s Control Dailies Enterprise and Cortex::ControlDailies as its solution for processing digital camera dailies. The company has also increased its digital film restoration capacity through the purchase of additional seats of MTI Film’s Correct DRS™.
