Todd-AO and Soundelux Artists Nominated for HPA Awards for Feature Sound

HOLLYWOOD–Motion picture sound artists from CSS Studios’ Soundelux and Todd-AO facilities are among the nominees in the Hollywood Post Alliance’s 2012 HPA Awards.

Supervising Sound Editor Lon Bender, Sound Designer Bill Dean, Sound Designer Kris Fenske and ADR Supervisor Glynna Grimala of Soundelux, and Re-Recording Mixers Mike Prestwood Smith and Michael Keller of Todd-AO are nominated for their work on The Hunger Games. Supervising Sound Editor Per Hallberg of Soundelux is nominated for his work on Safe House. Both awards are in the craft category Outstanding Sound – Feature Film. Winners will be announced on November 1st, 2012.

Vitamin’s “Other” Wins “Best Short” at Elvira’s Horror Hunt

Horror short to screen this month at Hollywood’s Vista Theatre and at Stan Lee’s Comikaze.

CHICAGO— Continuing to pile up awards and attract rave reviews on the film festival circuit, OTHER, the short film from director Daniel DelPurgatorio and Chicago production studio Vitamin, was named Best Short at Elvira’s Horror Hunt, a horror film festival and competition held this past weekend in Indianapolis.  OTHER also took home Best Director-Short, Best Screenplay and Best Score.

Along with winning top honors, OTHER will be featured at a special red-carpet screening at the historic Vista Theatre in Hollywood on September 13th presented by horror icons Elvira and Peaches Christ. To round out the weekend, OTHER will also be included in Stan Lee’s Comikaze, a comic, gaming, sci-fi, fantasy, horror and pop-culture convention at the Los Angeles Convention Center on September 14-16th.

Matt Egan of Filmworkers Gives Spy Novel the Star Treatment

Filmworkers director Matt Egan creates a trailer worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster for Derek Haas’ new novel “The Right Hand”

CHICAGO—September 10, 2012— Derek Haas has seen a lot of slickly-produced trailers full of pyrotechnics, special effects, and sexy women. They are often part of the marketing campaigns for the films whose screenplays he’s written, films that include 3:10 to Yuma and Wanted. But it’s unusual for one of his spy novels to get the Hollywood treatment.

Yet, a trailer for The Right Hand, Haas’ new book due out in November, looks very much like a preview for a summer blockbuster. A silhouetted figure in a perfectly tailored suit appears in an ominous, nighttime setting. There are guns, bomb blasts, roaring motorcycles and a naked woman with a Medusa’s crown of snakes. Dynamic images flood the screen at heart-pounding speed. A sonorous voice-over refers to “covert operations outside the boundaries of reality.”

Germany’s FGV Schmidle Selects Onboard M from Codex

IBC News: Codex Vault will Support Sony F65 Workflow

London, England –  Codex, the leading developer of digital media recorders and media management systems for film and television production, today announces that the Sony SR-D1 SRMemory reader module for the Codex Vault will be shown for the first time at IBC 2012 in Amsterdam on the Sony booth (12.A10) and the Codex booth (11.F41).

Finish Adds Grading via FilmLight’s Baselight

The company has also employed colourist Paul Harrison, a veteran of MPC and The Mill. Harrison oversaw the technical and aesthetic design of two new, purpose-built grading suites that, along with the Baselight TWOs, features a Baselight Assist and FilmLight’s revolutionary Blackboard 2 control surface.
